VOYAGE AROUND MY ROOM – Curated by Ermanno Tedeschi & Vera Pilpoul

The title of the exhibition Voyage around my room is inspired by Xavier De Maistre’s novel in which he believes that a person can find his happiness without leaving his room; All he needs are books, artwork and especially ideas that will fill his head. The space of the room is revealed as an infinite world in which man realizes his true freedom. The artists were invited to reflect on the concept of isolation and loneliness, physical and mental, in which confinement forced entire world.

The space of the room is revealed as an infinite world in which man realizes his true freedom. The curators wanted to deals and to relate to the conditions we all lived during the lockdown imposed by the pandemic and aims to tell the story of the difficulties each of us struggled.

The Italian curator Ermanno Tedeschi asked several Italian prominent artists to work on the theme of the room, the sensation of them enclosed within four walls, the works are interesting, surprising and versatile.

Concepts such as privacy, autonomy and self-expression, intimacy, imagination, are key points of reference to the exhibition works created by international contemporary Italian and Israeli artists. The exhibition attempts to initiate a new discourse on the notion of room and personal space, affected by the constant changes in our relationship with the environment, technology, and others, in continuation to the discussion that originated in classic literature.

Some artists played with light, others simply described themselves. Some used colors, others black and white: everyone told us what they lived in their own way.
