TEXTILE BIENNAL 2023. IMAGES OF POWER | Cristiana De Marchi

From 25th of June to 12nd of November
Museum Rijswijk
Herenstraat 67
2282 BR Rijswijk

The Textile Biennial 2023. Images of Power is a high quality, international exhibition of contemporary visual art in which fabric as a material plays a prominent role.

In recent years, biennials have been linked to a current and substantial theme that addresses the most pressing issues we face globally. Climate change, our relationship with food, being/having a home, and transition have been the themes for the past three years.

The theme of the 2023 Textile Biennial is Images of Power. The starting point is the representation of all possible forms of power that are under scrutiny and under discussion in this era. We invite artists to submit a proposal whose work presents a vision of all possible representations of power. These could be world leaders, local governments, international organizations, multinational corporations and interest groups. But also power structures in a smaller, more personal context: in the family, at work or in any other social setting.

The 2023 Textile Biennial will show the multiple interpretations and meanings that artists give to the representation of power in their work. The sum of visions on the theme Images of Power are testimonies to the need for a new world order and trust in those who hold power.
